Definitions

In these terms:

• “Site” or “Service”: the website https://stepstokmcalculator.com and all of its pages, in every language.
• “Publisher”: JS Media, the natural or legal person responsible for publishing the Site and its content.
• “User”: any person visiting and using the Site.

These Terms of Use are offered by the Publisher. Users are invited to read them carefully and to print or save them on a durable medium. By browsing the Site, the User acknowledges having read these Terms and accepts them in full.

Article 1 - Scope

These Terms define the conditions of access to the Site. The Publisher may modify them at any time by publishing a new version on the Site. The Terms applicable to the User are those in force on the day of acceptance.

Access to the Site is free of charge. Browsing the Site implies acceptance of these Terms in full. If the User is a minor or lacks legal capacity, they declare that they have the permission of a parent, guardian or legal representative.

The Publisher provides a privacy policy describing the personal data processed and the rights of Users. The privacy policy forms part of these Terms; accepting these Terms therefore implies accepting the privacy policy.

Article 2 - Purpose of the Site

The purpose of the Site is “online steps to distance calculator”: converting a number of steps into kilometres and miles, and a distance into steps, with related estimates (step length, time, calories) and explanatory content. The Site has no member area and does not require any registration.

Article 3 - Access and availability

The Publisher makes its best efforts to keep the Site accessible at all times, subject to maintenance of the Site or of the servers hosting it. If the Site cannot be accessed for technical or other reasons, the User cannot claim any damage or compensation.

The Publisher is bound only by an obligation of means; it cannot be held liable for damage resulting from the use of the Internet, such as loss of data, intrusion, virus, interruption of service or otherwise. The User expressly agrees to use the Site at their own risk and under their sole responsibility.

The Site provides information for guidance only, which may contain imperfections, errors, omissions or inaccuracies. In any event, JS Media cannot be held liable for any direct or indirect damage, including loss of profit, loss of business or loss of data, resulting from the use of the Site or from the impossibility of using it, nor for any malfunction, unavailability, misuse or configuration problem on the User's device.

Article 4 - Nature of the results

The distances, step lengths, durations and calorie figures displayed by the calculator are estimates derived from published research equations and average values. They depend on data entered by the User and on assumptions that may not match their situation. They do not constitute medical, sports or nutritional advice. Users who need an exact distance should rely on a measured course or a GPS device, and Users with questions about their physical activity should consult a health professional.

Article 5 - Hyperlinks

The Site may contain hyperlinks to other websites, in particular to the scientific sources cited. The Publisher has no control over these sites and cannot be held liable for their content, their availability or any damage resulting from their consultation. If a link points to content that appears unlawful, the User is invited to inform the Publisher at the address given above.

Article 6 - Cookies and local storage

The Site uses a technical cookie (“tarteaucitron”, exempt from consent) to remember the User's choices regarding cookies and, only after acceptance through the consent banner, audience measurement cookies. The calculator also stores the values entered in the local storage of the User's browser, on their device only, without any transmission to the Publisher.

The User can accept, refuse or change their choices at any time through the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page, or by configuring their browser. The list of cookies, their purpose and their duration are given in the privacy policy.

Article 7 - Intellectual property

All elements of the Site (texts, translations, calculator, logos, graphics, code) belong to the Publisher or are used with the permission of their owners. Any representation, reproduction or adaptation of the Site's contents, in whole or in part, without prior written permission is prohibited and may constitute an infringement under articles L.335-2 and following of the French Intellectual Property Code.

The scientific works cited on the Site remain the property of their authors and publishers; they are quoted for information under the right of quotation.

Article 8 - Liability

The Publisher undertakes to keep the content of the Site up to date and to provide accurate and clear information, without guaranteeing that it is free of errors. The Publisher cannot be held liable for damage of any kind resulting from the use of the Site, from an interruption of the Site for maintenance or updates, from a failure of the host or of the network, or from equipment unsuited to the Site.

Article 9 - Notifications and complaints

Any notification concerning these Terms, the legal notice or the privacy policy must be sent in writing, by registered post or by e-mail to the address given in the legal notice, stating the sender's name and contact details and the subject of the notice.

Any complaint related to the use of the Site must be lodged within 365 days of the event that gave rise to it. If the Site contains an inaccuracy or an error, the User may report it to the Publisher with a description and the address (URL) of the page concerned.

Article 10 - Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be unlawful, void or unenforceable, that provision shall be deemed severable and shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions. These Terms replace any prior agreement between the parties on the same subject. They cannot be assigned or transferred by the User.

Article 11 - Governing law and language

These Terms are governed by French law. Before any legal action, disputes arising from these Terms may be submitted to the Publisher with a view to an amicable settlement; such a request does not suspend the time limits for bringing an action. Unless a mandatory rule provides otherwise, any legal action shall be brought before the courts having jurisdiction over the defendant's domicile.

This English version is provided for convenience. The Publisher is established in France; in the event of a dispute over interpretation, French law and the French meaning of the terms used shall prevail.
