Definitions
- “Personal data”: any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person, within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, Regulation (EU) 2016/679) and the French Data Protection Act of 6 January 1978.
- “Service”: the website https://stepstokmcalculator.com and all of its contents, in every language.
- “Publisher” or “we”: JS Media, the person responsible for publishing the Service.
- “User” or “you”: any person visiting and using the Service.
Article 1 - Purpose of this policy
This policy informs you of the Publisher's commitments regarding your privacy and the protection of the personal data collected and processed when you use the Service. It may be updated at any time, in particular to reflect legal, regulatory or technical changes; the date of the last update is shown above. We invite you to consult it regularly.
For any question about this policy, or to exercise the rights described in Article 10, write to contact@stepstokmcalculator.com or by post to JS Media, 4 rue André Nicolas, 54210 Saint-Nicolas-de-Port, France.
Article 2 - Data collected
You can use the whole Service without providing any personal data: the calculator has no account, no registration and no form.
Your IP address is processed automatically by the host to deliver the pages and protect the Service against attacks. With your consent, an audience measurement tool (Google Analytics 4) collects anonymised browsing data (pages viewed, device type, source of the visit). The values you enter in the calculator (steps, height, sex, pace, weight, step length) are kept only in the local storage of your browser, on your own device, and are never transmitted to the Publisher.
If you write to us by e-mail, we process the data contained in your message (name, e-mail address, content) solely to answer you.
We do not collect any so-called sensitive data. Height, weight and pace entered in the calculator never leave your device.
Article 3 - Controller
The controller is JS Media, sole proprietorship registered in Nancy (France) under number 999147812, whose registered office is at 4 rue André Nicolas, 54210 Saint-Nicolas-de-Port, France.
Article 4 - Purposes
The Service may process your data for the following purposes:
- answering the messages you send to the contact address;
- measuring the audience of the Service and improving its pages, only with your consent;
- ensuring the security of the Service and of its host.
Article 5 - Recipients
Only JS Media receives your personal data. They are never sold or transferred to third parties, except to the technical processors mentioned in Article 9, who act on our instructions. We require these processors to guarantee the security of your data and to process it in accordance with the law; we do not allow them to use your data for their own purposes.
Article 6 - Legal basis
In accordance with the GDPR, JS Media processes personal data only on one of the following bases: your consent (audience measurement cookies), the legitimate interest of the Publisher (answering your messages, securing the Service) or a legal obligation.
Article 7 - Security
We have put in place appropriate measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used, altered, disclosed or accessed without authorisation. You are informed that your data may be disclosed pursuant to a law, a regulation or a decision of a competent authority, or where necessary to protect the rights of the Publisher.
Article 8 - Retention
Data are kept for the time strictly necessary to the purposes described above and no longer than 24 months. E-mails are deleted once the exchange is closed. Audience measurement data are kept for the duration set in the tool, at most 14 months. Data stored in your browser remain there until you delete them (with the “Clear” button of the calculator or in your browser settings).
Article 9 - Processors and transfers outside the European Union
JS Media uses technical providers that may process data outside the European Union: Cloudflare (hosting and delivery of the Site) and Google (Google Analytics 4 audience measurement, only after your consent).
These transfers rely on the safeguards provided by the GDPR: standard contractual clauses adopted by the European Commission and, for certified US providers, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (adequacy decision of 10 July 2023).
Article 10 - Your rights
Under data protection law you have the following rights, which you can exercise by writing to contact@stepstokmcalculator.com or to the postal address given in Article 1:
- the right to be informed about how your data are used (this policy);
- the right of access, to receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you (we may ask you to prove your identity);
- the right to rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data;
- the right to erasure, unless a compelling legal reason requires us to keep the data;
- the right to restriction of processing;
- the right to data portability, in a common format;
- the right to object, in particular to any processing for direct marketing purposes, and the right to withdraw your consent at any time.
Exercising these rights is free of charge. We may refuse or charge a reasonable fee for requests that are manifestly unfounded, repetitive or excessive. We try to answer every legitimate request within one month; this period may be extended for complex requests, in which case we will inform you.
Article 11 - Complaints to a supervisory authority
If you consider that JS Media does not comply with its obligations regarding your personal data, you may lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority. In France, this is the CNIL: https://www.cnil.fr/en/plaintes. Users in another EU country may contact their national authority.
Article 12 - Cookies
On your first visit, a banner lets you accept, refuse or customise the cookies that require consent. Until you accept, no audience measurement cookie is set. You can change your choice at any time through the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page.
Cookies and trackers used by the Service:
- tarteaucitron (set by the Site, exempt from consent): remembers your cookie choices. Duration: 12 months.
- _ga and _ga_* (Google Analytics 4, Google Ireland Ltd, subject to your consent): anonymised audience measurement (pages viewed, device type, source of the visit). Set only if you accept audience measurement. Duration: up to 13 months. Google's policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
- Browser local storage (no cookie, no consent required): the values entered in the calculator and the open tab, kept on your device for your next visit and never transmitted to the Publisher. Deleted with the “Clear” button or in your browser settings.
The Service currently uses no advertising or social network cookie. If an advertising network were added, this policy would be updated and your consent collected before any such cookie is set. To manage cookies in your browser, see the guidance of the CNIL: https://www.cnil.fr/en/cookies-and-other-tracking-devices.
